Powell Creek Preserve |

Powell Creek Preserve is located at 15601 Hart Road, North Fort Myers, in
northern Lee County about 0.3 miles north of Bayshore Road. It is in
the northwestern corner of Section 36, Township 43 South, and Range 24 East.
The site is bordered by Powell Creek Bypass Canal to the west, Forest Park
Mobile Home subdivision to the north, Hart Road to the east and Carriage Village
Mobile Home subdivision to the south. |

The Preserve contains mostly upland
pine flatwoods communities and a portion of Powell Creek and its floodplain
(Figure 2). The floodplain represents a slough community with pop ash trees
(Fraxinus caroliniana), buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) and Carolina
willow (Salix caroliniana). |

| Restoration Activites: |
| Large Brazilian pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius) bushes were removed from 15 acres of the preserve in 2005. Additional exotic control is planned for the rest of the site. Problem plants include air potato (Dioscorea bulbifera), wild balsam apple (Momordica charantia), Java plum (Syzgium cumini), woman’s tongue (Albizia auriculiformis), Guinea grass (Panicum maximum), cogon grass (Imperata cylindrica) etc. |

| A proposed primitive tail system for this Preserve containing educational signage, kiosk and maps is identified in the Land Stewardship Plan (see LSP for more information). |
