Red-bellied Woodpecker
These woodpeckers are characterized by their red bellies (you can see the red blush in the picture) and the zebra-like pattern on their backs. You can tell male red-bellied woodpeckers from the females by their crowns; males have red crowns, females do not. The red-bellied woodpecker in the picture is eating strangler fig berries - a delicacy for birds in the Slough. |
