Snowy Egret
Although egrets can often be confused with small white herons, the snowy egret's most distinguishing characteristic is its solid black beak and bright yellow feet. Take a look at the picture... it looks like the egret is wearing socks! These birds were hunted to near extinction for their breeding feathers, or plumes. The feathers were used to adorn ladies' hats. Luckily, the plumes went out of fashion. |
