Tricolored Heron

This tricolored heron is in its breeding plumage. Notice the long plumes coming from its head, back and tail.

Tricolored herons resemble little blue herons, but the tricolored heron has a white stripe on its neck and acts quite differently than the little blue.

When hunting for fish, the tricolored heron strides quickly through the water to scare its prey in a particular direction, then makes its attack!
