Ruddy Daggerwing
| Adult daggerwings have long, thin "daggers" projecting like tails from the rear edges of the hind wings. The daggerwing in the picture has only one dagger left, which means this older butterfly is beginning to feel the wear and tear of age. Luckily, this should not affect its flight: most butterflies continue to fly until approximately half of either wing is gone. | ![]() |
