VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES


 


Volunteer Naturalist Guide-
Lead scheduled interpretive guided nature walks along the lower loop of the boardwalk trail.

Roving Interpreter- Interact with visitors on a one-to-one basis answering questions and assisting them with finding wildlife along the trail.

“Information Station” Interpreter- Engage visitors with up-close learning and hands-on opportunities using artifacts and taxidermy. May also give mini-programs.

Spotting ‘scope Naturalist- Provide visitors with an up close view of wildlife through a ‘scope set up mainly at the pond observation decks.

Special Events support- Assist staff in creating, planning and implementing special seasonal “Happenings,” including using the above skills to interact with visitors.

School groups- Energetically educate children through a variety of rewarding programs on-site and/or at their school.

Outreach- perform public speaking engagements to adult community organizations at their site.

Land Stewardship- full spectrum of activities ranging from wildlife studies and monitoring, planting and weeding, to helping with the eradication of invasive plant species.

PREREQUISITES TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
  • No previous naturalist experience is necessary, but it is desirable.
  • Individuals need to be willing to learn on their own. There is on-going training throughout the year, but individuals will be responsible for doing further and continuous research.
  • Need to be friendly, out-going and have an interest in talking to, educating and being with people.
  • Enjoy being outside.
  • Have an interest in the environment and nature.
  • Provide 50 hours of service to the public per year.
