July is National Park & Recreation Month

Lee County Parks & Recreation is kicking off National Park and Recreation Month with an exciting new Video Contest. Click on image for details:

Also, in recognition of this annual celebration, Lee County Parks & Recreation will again be sponsoring a coloring contest from June 20 - June 24 for its summer camp participants. Each age group's entries will be judged and the winners will be awarded ribbons for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Winning art work will be on display at various public locations throughout the month of July. And, July 11 - 13 the Summer Camps will be participating in the "Food for Friends" drive to collect as many non-perishable food items for the disadvantaged population in our community as possible. The food drive is a county-wide camp contest to determine which campsite is able to collect the most items. Winners will be announced by 1 p.m. on July 13. First Place - Pizza Party. Second Place - Ice Cream Party. Third Place – Special treats for the camp.

The National Recreation and Park Association is also gearing up for Park and Recreation Month with their own great promotions and contests.

They are also holding the 2011 "Rock Your Park" Flash Mob Contest!

Demonstrate the power of parks and recreation through NRPA's 2011 “Rock Your Park” Flash Mob Contest (via YouTube). NRPA will choose one park and recreation agency and one citizen group as winners! Click here to access the rules and official online entry form. All entries due on or before Aug. 1, 2011.

Additionally, parking fees will be waived at Lee County regional parks and boat ramps and swimmers will have free admission to county pools on the last weekend of July - Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.
