I Took the Pledge!

Here are some more comments we received about our staff:
Kudos to Mike for making a great impression! Job well done!
“I hope this note finds you well. While at our place in Bonita over the Labor Day holiday I took my family to one of the beaches in Bonita Springs and we ran into one of your excellent team members; Mike Faust. Mike was drenched with sweat as he emptied the garbage cans, and inspected the park. Of course I had to talk to a fellow parks and rec professional. I found Mike to be very professional and customer service oriented. Mike took a few minutes to talk to us and he was pleased when I asked about you and some of your projects like the Red Sox stadium. I would like to commend Mike for his positive attitude and work ethic and I would like to commend you for hiring such a hard working individual with a positive attitude about his job. It was apparent after only a few minutes that he loves what he does and he understands the positive impact he has on his residents and visitors. He supplied me with your “I took the pledge” card (a great idea by the way) so I just had to share my story with you. Best wishes to you and your entire team of park and recreation professionals. We always enjoy the beaches in Bonita and we appreciate the attention they are given and the manner in which they are maintained. Take care and good luck with the stadium. As a Red Sox fan…I can’t wait. (I was able to read the article about its progress in the paper while I was there this weekend. Sounds like the project is going very well. My best to you always.” - Dan Loubier, Director Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Dept.
Here's another Kudo for the staff who work with our children with special needs!
“I just wanted to write you to tell you how appreciative we are for the special needs summer program. This is my son's 2nd year! I drive him from Cape Coral to Estero just for this summer camp which is like a God's Send to us! Jaimie & the staff are the most caring, fun and tireless group I've ever seen. So patient! My son seems like he 'blossoms' every year there. He's usually shy, but when we pull into the parking lot, he can't grab his stuff fast enough to get out of the car and runs in there like he just can't wait! I just wanted to give you a special kudos for having this fabulous program - You and the staff are doing an amazing job and providing a fantastic service for us...I hope other communities take note and consider providing such a program for special needs kids. Thank you so very much! God Bless you guys!" - Elaine M. Woods
Kudos to all staff involved with these programs. Amanda, Dorothy, Shea, Jaime and any part-time and on-call. A difficult job well done!
“Hi. I am the parent of a 14 year old on the autism spectrum. I just wanted to make sure you realize how wonderful the programs at Karl Drews are! Fortunately I live in San Carlos Park so the location is perfect for me! My daughter attends the after school program as well as "Fun Days" and summer camp. The staff there has been so great to work with over the years. I am sad to hear Amanda is leaving the area. Ms. Shay and Jaime Melendez are so dedicated to the kids and great with us parents. I know times are tough and there are many budget cuts going on in all sectors of life. For those of us with special needs children, it is very difficult to find child care help. Most 14 year olds can stay home alone but kids like mine can't be left alone for 5 minutes. So we NEED these programs in order for us to work and provide for our family. Thank you for continuing to support the special needs programs in Lee County. We so need them and appreciate them! Sincerely,” - Vicki Camarillo
“To Whom it May Concern: My son, Kevin, has been benefitting from the Special Needs ALL STAR and Sunshine camps during the summers for many years-from the time before there was a Karl Drews Center. I cannot express in words how grateful I am to Amanda, Jaime, Shay, Dustin and Nicole for making it possible for me to work during holidays and summer breaks without worrying for a second about the care Kevin was receiving. Anyone who has children and must work knows this kind of anxiety; when you have a child with many challenges as Kevin has, the anxiety is infinitely greater and there are so few places or persons trained and willing to even try. Please maintain the staffing of this program for our kids as there is so little for them to do in the community, especially when they reach high school and young adulthood. We traveled over an hour from Cape Coral to Veterans Park for the basketball clinic that Dustin Ritz coached; it was great exercise and the young adults and high school kids loved it. Please do anything you can or let me know what I can do to ensure the continuation of this program. Thanks,” - Lynn James
Kudos to Roberto for a job well done!
“Hi, my name is Carol Curtis. I had the unfortunate experience in Lakes Park of an overheated truck about 10 days ago. I was not sure how I was going to handle this. A very helpful and kind park employee by the name of Roberto Torres came to my rescue. He got the truck cooled down and enabled me to get it home. I would really like this information to the eyes and ears of those who may praise him for these actions. I must also tell you I wanted to offer Roberto money but he would not take it. I am all for womens' liberation but not when I have an overheated engine and a 12 year old granddaughter with me." - Carol Curtis
Kudos to Mary and Heather who quietly go about their business making Six Mile Slough the incredible facility it is!
“I just wanted to take the opportunity to let you know how much I admire the work that Heather and Mary do at the Slough. I've been volunteering here for 5 years now so I have worked with both of them in a number of different ways, and have just learned so much. The amount of effort that has gone into the Volunteer Training Program, both for the naturalists and for those who work in the Interpretive Center, is phenomenal. In some additional instruction I've received elsewhere, I've come to realize just how excellent the Slough's training program really is. It has given all of us the tools to become the ambassadors for Lee County Parks & Recreation that will make you proud. Most of us would pay YOU to work here! This year, I tried my hand at helping out with the Summer Camp schedule. I never went to camp as a child, but I am really impressed with the amount of work and effort that has gone into the Slough Camp program. If I were a parent, I would be thrilled to have my son or daughter participate. They are taught skills that enable them to be more observant, to be more aware of the world around them, to be more comfortable in unfamiliar situations, and for the older children, how not to panic in a wilderness scenario where you have to make do with the resources at hand. The kids learn how much effort goes into building your own shelter, procuring safe water, acquiring food and building fire without matches. Even though most of us never need to use these skills, it gives a child amazing confidence that they COULD if they had to. Heather has brought in other folks with specialized interests and/or abilities to augment the program schedule, which also makes for a more interesting day. Even the games teach skills that foster appreciation for the natural world. I know how hard Mary and Heather have worked and continue to work to make this camp and all other programs at the Slough the high quality ones that people have come to expect and participate in. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with both of them, and while I'm sure you know all this, I wanted you to know that others know it too. Sincerely," - Janet Bunch
Kudos to Jesse for delivering great customer service!
“I am sorry this email is long overdue and I should have sent it months ago. I wanted to thank you for caring enough to rush my Vehicle registration form back to Canada when you found it at during the Gene Cusic Classic in the parking lot. I was bringing the registration to my son who has played in the Gene Cusic Classic every year for the past 4 years. Thank you for caring, Thank you for your kindness. For the managers of the Lee County Parks & Recreation, you have a great employee who cares about people." - Shelley Blair
Kudos to Kristie and all the staff at Wa-Ke Hatchee for a job well done!
“Hello, My son (Caleb Owens) currently attends the Wa-Ke Hatchee summer camp. Next year my daughter (Kaia Owens) will be old enough to go as well. I just finished the online survey, but I also wanted to send a note to compliment the program. This year, we knew to sign up for Wa-Ka Hatchee. I just want to say how happy we are with this program. It is peace of mind to know that he is having great days/weeks at camp. There is appropriate activities for my son. He enjoys the other kids that are there as well. I also feel that the camp counselors are all respectful of my child and contribute to the kids having fun. Thank you," - Jodi Owens
Kudos for Jeremy Lewis out at the beaches!
“Just a note to tell you how much I appreciated Jeremy Lewis' diligence. I had taken my two teenage grandchildren to Fort Myers Beach for a week of fun in the sun. Our first day there, someone stole my granddaughters bag at the beach. Jeremy found the bag about a week later. Inside was my grandchild’s id, etc. plus her insurance card. He called our agent and gave him his phone number so I was able to call him (by then we were already back in Indiana.) I gave him my address and he shipped the bag to me. He also told me that he had found info in her bag that said we were staying at best western there at the beach so he checked there first, but because we registered in my name, he could not locate us that way. I am just so thankful there are people like him in this world. What a caring, honest man! I just want you to know how much I appreciate his kindness. I’m sure that is not part of his job but he did the right thing. My granddaughter, my daughter and I just want to say thank you to him and let you know what a good thing he did. I hope you all appreciate him as we do. Also, please let him know we say ‘thank you!!!!!’ and by the way, other than the theft, we had a fabulous week at the beach and plan on returning next year! The beach was so clean and the flowers and trees were beautiful. Your department does an excellent job! So clean and gorgeous! Again, thank you.” - Bobbie Sandefur
"We were on Fort Myers Beach on Wednesday July 20th and wanted to go parasailing. Jeremy was kind enough to go to the parasailing booth and bring us back the information. He brought it back and pointed us in the right direction. We went parasailing and had a great time. Thank You Jeremy!!!!!!"
Kudos for Sandra and her staff at Alva!
“I just wanted to share with you how WONDERFUL the staff was at the Alva Community Center for the summer camp program. This was my sons first year attending summer camp. We were both very nervous of him going, but when we went to the open house, the first person we saw was Ms. Theresa. My son knew her from his school and was so excited to see her there. It made both of us feel a little relieved that there was someone we knew. We met the rest of the staff and they all were so friendly and happy to answer questions and talk about some of the things they would be doing in camp. My son is 5 and was so excited the first day of camp. He loved all the trips and things they did at the center. He loved it so much that I would have to basically drag him out every night. The staff was always friendly and loved for parents to be a part of the activities. The last day of camp my son was almost in tears because he didn't want it to be over. Because of his great experience we signed him up for the after school program there also. Thank you for having such amazing people that work at this center and for having it in such a convenient place. I will recommend this program to everyone I can! Thank you," - Jessica Watkins
“Good Morning, I wanted to take the time to thank Lee County Parks for the awesome Alva summer camp this year 2011. My son is having a great time, he can’t wait to get there in the mornings and wants picked up as late as possible daily. All the counselors are top notch, (one lady I don’t know her name...she is great, very kind and understanding). Again I would like to thank lee County and look forward to spring camp. Thanks" - Margaret Tuya Owner/Director Tuya Property Tax Management
Kudos to Vicki!
“Thank you for the follow up about concerns with the Sanibel Causeway Islands. Let me first say, my contact Vicki Little is doing a great job. But, she does need resources beyond what she is getting now. Evidentially there is a new – no motorized trailer parking ordinance - for the Causeway Islands coming into effect soon. That will certainly help the issues at hand. Enforcement is the tough part; with budget cuts etc. everyone is aware staff is stretched right now. Funding for adequate signage would help also. Each Causeway Island entrance needs eye level signage laying out the rules for the Islands. I owned a sign shop for years and am familiar with proper sign placement. Thank you for your time." - Wil Compton
Kudos to BJ none of us would have a cell phone if it wasn’t for her!
“Since we are passing out Kudos, I believe BJ deserves some! BJ Schroat was so helpful to me on Friday. My phone was so DEAD…and it had all my contacts in it. My friends from Tallahassee were coming to town and my numbers for them were in the phone! BJ took charge, made all the right contacts and by 4:40pm I was ready to go with a working phone that had all my numbers! The weekend was saved! Thanks BJ!" - Celia B. Hill, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent IV
Kudos to D.J. Ranger Duncan!
“I would like to thank Ranger Mac Donald for his assistance on 05/22/2011. While in Lakes Park he was very helpful in giving myself directions and meter help.. I know it was his job, but he seemed to like helping myself and other people." - Ted Knopfle
Kudos to Carla for always being there behind the scene to get stuff done!
“Carla, thank you so much ...for helping to get the rush invoice approved so quickly it took less 5 minutes . That’s team work." - Maureen Rambaran, Accounts Payable Clerk
Kudos to Lee and the staff at Lakes! Great job everyone!
“Please convey to your staff how much we appreciate Lee and the staff of Lakes Park for their consistent, cheerful, helpful service during our picnics. The picnics are an important part of our life together at Grace Church. Our children are being raised with strong traditions, church gatherings at Lakes Park being one of them! When I overhear people connecting for the first time, or deepening their connections over a meal, during a game, or some shared activity I know that we are fulfilling the charge we have been given. We want to help people become more fully devoted to Christ and one another. Your staff and facility go a long way to make that happen! Many thanks to you all…… Grace and Joy" - Shari Lacey Grace Church – Director of Connect and Form Ministries
Kudos to Chris Schirmer for a job well done!
“Thank you for your expertise in leading our class. You start and end on time and keep ‘students’ on task. The class is the fastest hour of the week. Your dedication and professionalism are outstanding! Best wishes for a successful summer program. See you in October." - Chuck
Here’s another one for Velton and the guy from Binghamton (Andy)!
“I just wanted to drop a quick note to tell you how great your employees were during my recent trip to Florida. I decided to do some fishing beneath the Sanibel Bridge, and when I approached them to ask a couple of questions, they couldn't have been more helpful. They took time out of their busy day to make sure I was truly comfortable with what they were explaining. It was really nice of both Velton and his partner (I wish I could remember his name, but he's originally from Binghamton, NY)) that day too go out of their way to help me in what I needed. I just wanted to write to say thank you for the extra effort on their part. Next time I'm bringing my family with me...Sincerely” - PJ Goldfeder - Yonkers, NY
Kudos to Sandra and staff out in Alva for this great testimony!
“Good afternoon. I was provided with your e-mail address to share my experiences with Sandra Bates and her awesome staff at Alva Community Center. Over the last 9 years, I have left my son with other people and constantly worried about whether or not they were taking proper care of him. I never have to worry about that now since my son began the after-school program and the summer program at Alva Community Center. Sandra is always professional, honest, and keeps my son in line when needed. She also hires the best of the best staff members. I feel confident, relieved and secure knowing my son is in Sandra's hands each and every day while I am away at work. She makes a great impression on him and she is like a second Mom to all the kids. She treats them as her own and what more could you ask for? She loves her job and it shows! I love the service and care for my son that Sandra provides day in and day out. Thank you for keeping Sandra and her staff available to babysit my one and only 9 year old son! I thank God each and every day for those wonderful, caring and awesome people! Sincerely yours” - - Sherry N. Simes, REALTOR
Kudos to Ella, Steve and Yancy! What a great letter!
“Lee County Parks and Recreation has a pledge: 'I promise to deliver excellent customer service with a smile' and I think that the employees at this facility exceed the purpose of this pledge. I'm a new resident to the area and I am extremely impressed by the care and upkeep given by that staff. The lawn is well manicured, the bathrooms cleaned and always with paper and trash removed in a timely manner. They check on visitors to make sure that all is well and provide them with helpful hints of being safe while visiting. How great is that? I have observed them constantly repairing the destroyed fence that surrounds the skating area because the older teens tend to take joy in destructive behavior to that particular area. These disrespectful ones tend to come out after five o'clock when all of the staff is gone. They have some to climb the tree to keep a look out for any police that may be visiting. Your staff make timely repairs. You know, every employee that exceed and truly excel in job performance needs an 'Atta Boy' from others who appreciate what they do and I take extreme pleasure in giving one to the following people: Ms. Ella Campbell, Mr. Yancy Hall and Mr. Steven Woosley. Their smiles should be copied for all of your employees to wear as a badge of honor. Prior to retiring from the State of Florida, I too held the position of supervisor and I would once a year take my staff to some place special and give them a treat of appreciation for a job well done. Now I can't tell you how to treat your staff and to show your appreciation above and beyond your job but I just seems to me that they've earned at least a steak dinner. Also, I think that this family that you've had the insight to create has shown their dedication to your agency and does a job that shines positive in the public's eye. They have also shown themselves worthy of tenure. Don't make them jobless. We need them. Thank you for hiring a Great and Caring Staff at Lehigh Veterans Park. Respectfully yours” - Jacquelyane P. Hamilton, Grateful Visitor
Kudos to Toni and Marcos for a great job!
“I just wanted to send a short note to let you know that we appreciate the work your staff has been doing at the Lehigh complex. The fields look to be in the best shape they have been in for years and are always ready to play when we get there. We appreciate all that has been done to help the boys and girls of Lee County to have a fun and safe tournament.” - Kevin Yochum, Dist. 18 Umpires Association
Kudos to Irma and all the staff for a great job. That includes Jim and Gary too! Athletics and any other staff that helped with this event!
“To the staff of Lee County Parks & Recreation, Estero Community Center, I want to take the time to let you know that our organization, National High School Gymnastics Association, was VERY impressed with your service and dedication to our group. Your staff was very accommodating to our needs and requests; from patiently teaching us how to use your sound system to coping off our meet results. Your front desk staff was very helpful in all ways, they were never “MIA,” when we needed them for something, they were there. Those “above and beyond” gestures are what will keep you at the top of our list when we discuss next year’s options of where to hold our Senior Showcase Invitational (we have to discuss options - even though we know we are going to come to you). Your staff was genuinely friendly, not just “doing their jobs” but making us feel like we were the only guests you had. Thank you for a truly wonderful experience. See you all again next year. Happy Handstands” – Margie Canfield and the NASGH Board
Kudos to Velton who just keeps on delivering that great service!
"I wanted to take a moment to write you a note expressing my appreciation for one of your employees, Velton Corbett, for the things he did to make my visit to Bunche Beach on Saturday, June 25, much more pleasant. First, the printer in the parking meter malfunctioned, resulting in a badly-printed receipt. I found Mr. Corbett as he was taking care of some trash receptacles and explained the situation. He looked at my receipt, listened to my explanation, and wrote a note on one of his cards which we placed on my dash next to the receipt so that there would be no confusion about how much time had been purchased. Next, as we were talking about why I was visiting the park, Mr. Corbett suggested that I might look in another section for the group I was supposed to meet, since paddle-boarders (my activity) tend to leave from the activity center rather than the beach. As this was my first visit to the park, his advice was invaluable. For a first-time visitor to a Lee County park, an encounter with someone like Velton Corbett makes a tremendous, and entirely positive, impression. The area around Bunche Beach is spectacular, but a pleasant meeting with a friendly, helpful individual made the visit even more special. I congratulate you on having employees like Mr. Corbett, and for creating a working environment that encourages them to provide such a great experience for visitors. I look forward to returning to this, and other, Lee County parks and facilities in the future. With best regards," - Curtis Franklin, Jr., Journalist and Executive Editor, Enterprise Efficiency
Kudos to Libby and staff for a great job!
"Hi Amanda! Hope you are having a great summer so far. We are! You were in the office (orthopedic specialists) in May and encouraged me to send my son Nathan (13 Down Syndrome) to summer camp, TEEN Camp. I was reluctant at first but after you spoke with me I was feeling really good about it. Signed up online with the help of Libby Olive and even stopped by to meet her last May when a Flea Market was being held. I was still feeling good after we met her. Well, we got the message for open house to meet Ms. Libby and Ms. Tasha so we went. Camp sounded soooooo good that Nathan's sister is attending camp with him. It took a couple of days but I think now everyone has learned who Nathan is and he, them and the first week was a success...What a nice group of teens. I truly think though, their demeanor is not only a testament to their parents but also to Libby and Tasha. I have NEVER had as good a feeling about anything Nathan has been involved as I have with this summer camp. Thank you, Thank you for encouraging me again to get Nathan involved. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again." - Cathy Huffmans
Kudos to Tom McDaniel for a job well done!
"I would like to recognize and compliment the efforts and service provided to our baseball league by Mr. Thomas McDaniel. This past weekend my son's Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken baseball team (E.S.B.N.) hosted a weekend long tournament involving teams from Manatee County, Lehigh Acres, Englewood, and Sarasota. Friday night the heavens opened and left little doubt that our fields would be unplayable. Not so thanks to Thomas. He arrived at the Estero High ballfield at 7:30 sharp and began to work on the field. I could not believe that by 9 a.m. our field was not only playable but groomed to the point that would make any host league proud. Mr. McDaniel provided me with his cell phone number and asked that I contact him prior to the completion of one game so that he could come back, groom the field again, AND remove any trash that had accumulated. He did this at Estero’s fields three times that day. It was not until after the tournament that I was informed that he had provided the same service for us at Three Oaks Park that same day. We live in a world where I think people are too quick to complain when things are not laid out for them to perfection. Some have come to expect that “the table be set for them with no waiting” and fail to recognize the efforts that people put forth to provide good old fashioned effort and work. That said, thank you again Thomas! If you would please pass along our gratitude to Thomas and recognize his effort and work ethic. Your department and Lee County were made to look very good in mine and many other parents eyes last weekend. Give that man a raise! Respectfully" - Bobby Vukobratovich, Maintenance Supervisor, The Enclave of Naples
Kudos to David Mitchell!
"I was camping at Caloosahatchee Regional park May 22-24. When I got there Sunday afternoon, David Mitchell told me that I would be the only camper there, and that the water would be turned off. I have not camped out in more than 35 years and I was by myself, just me and my kayak. David was nice enough to show me around, took me to the kayak launch several times & made sure I was familiar with everything. I was not going to stay but David went the extra mile to make me feel at ease. I did stay, had a good time kayaking and camping. Just wanted to say David made it feel like a four-star hotel. Thanks" - Robert G.
Kudos to Donnasue!
"Thanks for your assistance throughout the season. We will resume Fall Ball on Wednesday, Oc. 19, with one field only at Three Oaks Park. … Donnasue, we appreciate the great job you did in advertising the softball program. Keep it up. Have a good summer. Look forward to seeing the staff next fall. Sincerely" - Fred Y.
Kudos to Mary Beth!
"You Rock! Thank you for helping us out so much this year with the run, Oak Hammock Osprey Chase. There were many more people than we planned on and having you there being so calm, patient and helpful was amazing. My husband, Joe, could not say enough about how wonderful you are, Marybeth. Thank you." - Molly Haskill and the OHMS staff
Kudos to Rebecca, Glenn, Carron & Robert!
"Due to football injuries, I have limited amount of exercise options. It is possible for me to receive an excellent workout without my old bones moaning too much thanks to the Lee County P&R program: Senior Aerobics. I work out at the Lehigh Acres pool … the pool staff is awesome. Yesterday after our class, an incident occurred poolside. One of my elderly classmates was attempting to put on her shorts over her swimsuit. Unfortunately she forgot she was still wearing her pool shoes. One shoe stuck inside the shorts leg, and she hit the deck very hard. She appears to have injured her wrist and her hip or thigh. The pool guards were very quick to respond and took immediate control of the situation. Two guards made her comfortable and started to inquire as to the extent of her pain. The lady was alert and remained calm. Concurrent with providing an ice pack for her wrist and even letting her use the back of one of the guards to support her sitting erect, another guard called the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue team for further assistance and transport. The remaining guard stayed on station to monitor the people still in the pool. I am very pleased with the professional and efficient handling of the situation...Sincerely" - Vannoy Banks, Governor 1996-97 Florida District of Kiwanis International
Kudos to Vicki and Kevin!
"Thank you for allowing us to have our Easter Sunrise Service at Bonita Beach Park. This was our 10th year hosting the Easter Service at the beach and we appreciate everybody who was involved. We send a special thank you to Vicki Little for her extensive effort in making everything possible and helping us to keep up with all that was needed to make it happen. We would also like to thank Kevin, who met our audio team at the beach at 5 a.m. He was very gracious to meet us so early on a holiday weekend. We look forward to working with all of you again next year and for many years to come. Sincerely" - The pastors and deacons of Gospel Baptist Church and School
Kudos to Kim Davis for a job well done!
"I am writing to give a big thanks to a current employee of the Veteran's Park Rec Center. My children have been attending the afterschool program at the Rec Center for several years now. This past week the center conducted sign-ups for the afterschool program. When employee Kim Davis did not see my children on the list, she gave me a quick call just to see if I was planning on sending them again next school year. I said of course - I thought the sign-ups were to begin June 20 - boy was I wrong. She explained no, they were currently conducting sign-ups and there were only a few spaces left. She was genuinely concerned as she knows that I depend on the afterschool program. We processed the order and the kids were signed up in no time. I have to say that I was very impressed with Kim and feel that she really went above and beyond. She is a true asset to the facility and I really appreciate the fact that she really truly cares. A big THANKS to Kim! Sincerely, A very Happy Parent." - Melissa H. Santana
Kudos to Jeremy for going above and beyond!
"I wanted to contact you regarding Jeremy Lewis with Bowditch Point Park. Today Mr. Lewis saw someone hit my wife's vehicle with his car and begin to pull away. Mr. Lewis stopped the man and told him he needed to leave his information on my Wife's car (which the man ended up doing, leaving a business card). Mr. Lewis also wrote the man's liscence plate down and make and model of the car he believed it to be. Mr. Lewis then went out on the beach asking individuals if they had a vehicle with a Texas liscence plate and ended up speaking with my wife and it was her car. Park employees contacted the sheriff department and a short time later an officer arrived. Mr. Lewis stayed at the scene until I arrived to help my wife. Besides helping us out with the accident Mr. Lewis was very nice to my wife, daughter, and I. The officer made a police report because the man that hit my wife's vehicle was unable to be reached at the number he left on the card. I did leave a message on his voicemail. Thank You." - Guy Whitford
Kudos to Laura Wewerka for a great job!
"Hi Laura, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for ensuring that the equestrian concerns were addressed as part of the Pop Ash Creek Project. While it’s true that I loved the preserve the way that it was before, I very much appreciate how you made sure that the horse trails were considered as part of the project. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised during the grand tour today. I’m very much looking forward to the preserve reopening in the next few weeks. Of course, the trails are packed down and cleared because of the truck traffic, but please let me know about any volunteer work that may be needed to open or maintain the preserve." - Jo Harder
Kudos to Pablo & Kyle for going above and beyond!
"My name is Steve Vogel and our company , Aladame Sports, provides on-site merchandising for Perfect Game. We have built a great relationship with members of your team over the last four years in our role with Perfect Game. Your entire team of employees help us out tremendously whenever we need assistance. They are friendly and professional. I would like to recognize two recent examples of 'going beyond the call of duty' that truly helped us out. We pack and travel with a trailer to store merchandise. We traveled to Ft. Myers for the PG Memorial Day event, and to help make things more efficient we asked for permission to leave our trailer at the Red Sox facility, which we received and truly appreciate. Due to some damage on top of our trailer, Pablo Adorno took the time to provide some adhesive to keep water out of our trailer. This was a great gesture on his part, as any water going into the trailer would have caused significant damage. Next, as we prepared to cover the PG National Showcase at City of Palms, Kyle Katzenmeyer provided great assistance in moving our trailer over to City of Palms from the Red Sox Complex. This was extremely valuable to us, as in our coverage for this week, we did not have a truck available to move the trailer. In each of these examples, this type of assistance is greatly appreciated. We visit and do business in many facilities, and your team is excellent to work with. I know in this letter I have mentioned two individuals, but take this letter as recognition of all your team, from supervisors to maintenance personnel...We greatly appreciate your team of workers! Sincerely," - Steve Vogel Aladame Sports Inc.
Kudos to Roger for going above and beyond!
"Dear County Commissioners: I was long overdue in my thank you to Roger Clark in taking action for a problem that I alerted him to in the Bunche Beach area. He took care of the problem in a timely fashion and it was not an easy thing to do in a kayak. It was very admirable and he should be commended. Some of you know me and my history for environmental concerns and I have been quiet for some time but I wanted to point out that Roger Clark went above and beyond to take care of the problem. I hope that you give him the recognition that he deserves. Thank you." - Mary Ellen and Roger Ruddick
Kudos to Mike Blackman! This is a real testament to dedication even on those busy holidays when we are not getting any extra pay and everyone else is off.
"Mike Blackman called me yesterday morning (Memorial Day Holiday) to let me know that all power was off at Estero. Smoke was coming from the chillers and there was no power at the Center or at the Maintenance Building. I called the afterhours number with Lee County. The electricians came out. Mike met the electricians, AC folks, and also Florida Power and Light employees. He showed everyone where they needed to go and also let them in the center and gave them all information that each group needed. We all show up this morning and everything is working and back in order. I appreciate Mike working yesterday and staying on top of all this as it could have been a huge problem. I know there is no Holiday pay for the employees but I wanted to let you know that I appreciate this kind of dedication from Mike and all your staff during these tough times." - Jim
Kudos to Peggy Cruz for a great job!
"Public servants OK! - Recently, some politicians have been using government workers - public servants - as scapegoats for the budget deficit. And while people are often quick to complain, they rarely take the time to express satisfaction. I would like to commend the Lee County Extension Service Horticultural Desk for its excellent work. No matter how many times I call or how busy they are, they always take their time to answer my questions. I am especially grateful to Peggy, a wonderful public servant." - Jean Richtfort
Andy and Velton are really knocking the socks off our customers - Kudos are not enough!
"I wanted to let you know that my sister and I met one of your employees named Velton who made our day. He made us feel welcome and told us all about his family (11 grandkids...wow!). Keep up the good work, it is a very beautiful place!" - Naresha Howard, Lexington KY
"I am a senior who takes regular walks on Bunch Beach. Thanks for all the improvements! I commend you and your staff for keeping the beach clean but still natural. One of your guys, Velton Corbett, who helps make this happen is a great ambassador for the county. He is a hard worker and greets me and others with a cheerful smile. His partner, who I don't know his name, is a great asset too. Thanks Again." - Rob Schevers
"I would like to thank you and a few of your great employees for the great service you are doing for the residents of Lee county. As a young retiree who fishes Punta Rassa, The Causeway, & The New Bunche Fishing Piers, I see your staff working hard cleaning the bathrooms, picking trash, cleaning the fishing stations, & giving excellent customer service. While fishing yesterday at the new Bunche Park, employees Andy Miller & Velton Corbett took the time to come over & explain the services offered by your Parks Department. I am a Retired Human Resource Director from Minneapolis Minnesota & When I see employees doing such a great job I wanted to thank them & your whole department. There are other staff members also I have seen out at these sites but I do not know their names who also need to be thanked for a great job. As a resident and taxpayer in Lee County, Thank You & your whole Parks Department Staff for doing such a great job." - Alex Alexandro, Human Resource Director – Retired
About Velton: "He is the best man you have he always is polite always has a smile on his face I have never wrote a letter like this so please excuse any miss spelled words. But I just had to do it Velton makes your day happy by just seeing him. And, he is always doing something to make the beach a better place." - P.
Kudos to Lee Waller!
"Thank you all for the help the past few weeks and Lee thank you for getting someone out to Powell gate on a minutes’ notice this past Friday. I know we all have jobs to do and we all work for governmental agencies and we are suppose to be the 'service friendly' accommodating people but sometimes others make our jobs more difficult and we go home wondering why we do what we do and even why we put up with ungrateful individuals at times. I want you to know that there are 15 people out there in the State of Florida today that now have the training, certification and skills in land navigation to accompany their K9 search skills and may someday save the life of a missing person or child. They can now keep themselves a lot safer and we can have some comfort in knowing we have trained them and tested them to try to prepare them for what lies ahead in their search and rescue careers. They are all very grateful for the land use, the support and the kindness that you all have shown that goes far above and beyond anything our jobs require. Again, thank you all." - Dorn J. Beddow, Director Southwest Florida K9 Search Unit
Kudos to Chris Williams!
"I would love to send you a thanks for hiring someone as caring as Chris Williams. We have a senior softball tournament each year at the twins facility. One of the fields there faces toward the mini lake. I lose a lot of balls in that water each year and a lot of money in revenue as well. Chris volunteered to get a canoe and paddle around that lake to retrieve our balls for 12 hours a day. He did not have to do that and was very genuine in his effort. He asked us continually if there was anything he could help us with. Lee County is getting a reputation in the sports community as a place that delivers on the front and back end. Anyone who needed help to their car the lee county staff was there with a cart. We will continue to come there especially with Chris patrolling those waters." - Jim Samsonite
Kudos to Cindy Carter, Lee Waller, Ed Weaver, Cathy Olsen & Kathy Cahill!
"I want to personally thank you all for your hard work and dedication in affording Southwest Florida K9 Search Unit areas to train when we recently hosted an out of state trainer to our town. We had five fantastic days of training and learned a great deal that will assist our handlers and K9’s in the future with missing children and adult cases. You all worked tirelessly in placing us, finding property, adding locks and even had a personal visit from one of the rangers at the Caloosa site. Thank you again." - Dorn J. Beddow, Director Southwest Florida K9 Search Unit
Kudos to Mary Beth and her crew!
"Hi Mary Beth and crew. Thank you for all your support and superior service for Sunset to Sunrise Relay. We appreciate doing business with you, and are so thankful for the partnership. We look forward 2012!"
Kudos to Nancy Kilmartin, Kathy Loomis and Dan Bergstresser!
"Nancy, how can I thank you for all your help and support with my final project for the FMNP Uplands Class I just finished? I truly appreciate the time you took to walk through the habitats with me identifying different plants and explaining park history. You provided me with resource books and plant samples that made my presentation better. Your assistance with my PowerPoint presentation really helped me make a more professional presentation to my class. You didn't do it for me, but taught me how to do it myself. I look forward to modifying the presentation for a future training program for Manatee Park volunteers. Thanks to Dan and Kathy too. All three of you were very encouraging and supportive of my project from the beginning. I appreciate your offer to attend my presentation, but was afraid my nerves would get the better of me with you there. I'm sure you understand. I've really enjoyed the FMNP modules and feel they have really broadened my knowledge of Florida habitats. Thanks for encouraging me to take part in the FMNP program. I've already passed along some of what I've learned to park visitors. Once again, you've made Manatee Park a wonderful place to volunteer!" Thanks... Stephanie Levin
Kudos to Andy Miller and Velton Corbet! I received the following email yesterday and it made me so proud to know that our efforts can bring pleasure to so many people’s lives. This is a testimony, not only to the great efforts by staff but to our attention to providing accessible facilities for all. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
“May 16th 2010, while at work at my hotel in Bonita Springs, I was shot in the back twice and rendered a paraplegic. I needed to make a few comments in reference to San Carlos Bay/Bunche Beach Preserve. I was a very frequent beach walker and loved the bird watching, the big boats passing through to deeper waters in the gulf and the ever drastic changing tides of Bunche Beach itself. Of which produced some of the most fascinating wild life I have ever seen. Friday, May 6th I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Miller and Velton on the first time returning since my accident in 2010, with my nurse. I wanted to show her the pleasures of the area from a concierge's view point. When I had walked the beach before my spinal cord injury, I recall the vigorous process of turning a once plain beach into a wonderful beach and one of Lee and Collier Counties best kept secret. Oh My God, what I witnessed was just totally awesome. A beach renovation that should be an example to other beaches in SWFL. Not only was it complete with picnic tables and wonderful cabbage palms lining the front entrance, but a complete new comfort station and changing area with increased parking spaces.
When I got to the beach entrance I meet with Andy and I began thanking him and his colleague for all the work you all have done. He began to explain the changes that took placed and offered his services to me while I was at the beach. He told me that you have a concessionaire now. Oh My God! He then told me to hold on "I'll go and sweep" the new mat we have that would allow persons with disabilities easier access time. It led right to a picnic table. It was hard enough for me to take my wheelchair over and get me further on the beach than I ever expected. I just need to say "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Since being confined to a wheelchair, I have noticed so many difficulties with getting around visiting historical sites and restaurants in Lee and Collier Counties and the efforts that the many have gone to meet the requirements of the time. Let me just say most have done the least amount possible, but enough to pass! How sad. But you guys did a wonderful job…
Andy and I spoke, I offered my thoughts and we shook hands and parted friends. Andy did thank me, because he would not have thought about me in my wheelchair, and said he would make changes in the way he approaches future projects. He promised some changes on the approach, what a star. Velton stood at his side confirming with a smile all the changes that took place. They certainly deserve gold stars; they took the pledge very seriously! I shall return, but won't tell anyone about the changes to keep it a best kept secret. Only Kidding, I shout from the mountain tops if you could find any around here. Many thanks and look forward to seeing you in the future.” - Tony
Kudos to Tom Young and Community Service Worker Yami!
"My name is Andrew Brown and I'd like to notify you of the outstanding customer service delivered from two of your staff. A couple of weeks, while my family and I were visiting Lakes Park, my son and I were playing catch with a football. I kicked it too hard and it landed in the heart of a palm tree just behind the train station offices. I went to the cashier window and the lady called to see if anyone could help. Tom Young showed up with a young woman named Yami. I explained what had happened and since the tree was pretty high, he didn't think he'd be able to get a ladder long enough until Monday. I said thank you and I would check back then to see if he was able to get it down. Before he left, he said he would see if he could find a pole or something that might help. He arrived a few minutes later with a long pole and was able to knock it down. I really appreciated Tom and Yami thinking outside the box and making an extra effort to help me. Thank You." - Andrew Brown, Lee County Resident
Kudos to Bob Repenning! Also for Mary and Heather too!
"Another good presentation!! I think the 'State of the Slough' is a good title. If we didn't appreciate all you do to protect and preserve the slough before the meeting, now it is very clear how hard you work for all of us. I'm proud my tax dollars are going in that direction! Thanks you for a delightful evening!" - Joyce
"Thanks so much folks for the super ending to a super season of Friends gatherings. It turned out really good! I was so happy to see the room full of people. Bob did a great job with the 'State of the Slough.' It gives everyone an idea of some of the work that is involved keeping the Slough 'happy.' Moving onward to the summer! Maybe some of us will get some quiet time? Not! All of my thanks for a wonderful time, as usual." - Carolyn Babb
Kudos to Betsy!
"Just wanted to thank you for your help with the travel editor with the St. Pete Times. Kate shared that she'd been trying to work on this particular travel editor for quite some time and that you opened doors for her. We VERY much appreciate all you do to help with our mission! Having three pages of coverage in the St. Pete market as we're heading into the shoulder season is PERFECT timing." - Tam, Exec. Director VCB
Kudos to Vicki Little. You know how important it is to hear the “always smiling” words in our department.
"We just wanted to let you know how impressed we were with the coordination of the SUP (Stand Up Paddling) event at Bunche Beach on 5/1. We were there as volunteers, floating in our kayaks at turn 2&5 of the race. Our primary purpose was to yell on encouragement to the participating paddle boarders, as they rounded the pylon. Vicki Little deserves a lot (if not all) of the credit for a "fun time for everyone". Of course, we are a little biased, as Vicki is the always-smiling leader of our Beach Beautification volunteer group." - Ron and Linda Ustruck
Kudos to Roy for running a great “Farm Tour.” Lots of compliments came in and these are a few.
"Thank you so much for saving the day for us yesterday. We would have been so disappointed if we missed the farm tour. We never expected to hop on the bus. Your kind offer to drive us back to our car, was greatly appreciated. As usual, it was a very interesting and informative day. We are looking forward to our next farm tour. Thanks." - Pat and Mary Rose
"Thank you again for the educational and entertaining farm tour yesterday. I learned more about male goats than I'll ever need!" - Ricki Howie
"Dear Roy, Special thanks to you and the Agricultural Extension staff for organizing and coordinating the recent fabulous Urban Farm Tour. It was a wonderful treat for Molly and me to learn about our urban farming operations and to mingle with an exceptional group of people on the tour. Please extend my appreciation to Rachel and Andrea for their willingness to drive me back to Terry Park prior to completion of the tour." - Commissioner Ray Judah, District 3
"I wanted to thank you for running the Urban Farm tour. I really, really enjoyed it! I thought it was run very well. It was much more than I expected. What a great way to find resources and also see what local farmers are doing. It was very encouraging and interesting! Thank you again and I look forward to next year's tour!" - Cori
Kudos to Barb for a great job. Internal customer service is just as important as external. Where would we be without all the work our support staff does for us!
"I just worked with Barb through a problem with a vendor. She was very helpful and knew exactly what I needed. I just wanted you to know I appreciate her hard work and the expertise all your staff show in helping us out." -Robert Repenning, Land Stewardship Coordinator
Kudos to Lee for a great job!
"I once again want to thank you and your staff for going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure our event on Sunday afternoon went smoothly. I have nothing but the highest compliments for Robert and yourself, and hope to rent a facility again sometime in the near future because of the outstanding facilities and exceptional staff. Thanks for everything." - Anita Lewis, First Assembly of God
Kudos to Mary, Heather, Bob & Andy for an incredible job!
"I was too choked up to speak today and want to thank you properly. You make volunteering at the Slough a real pleasure. Our training program is top notch. Your support to volunteers through excellent communications, advance scheduling, responsiveness to our concerns, your trust in us and your personal involvement creates confidence and safety for us. We feel valued – you never miss an opportunity to say thank you. We are inspired by your example, your competence and your love of our dear preserve. You challenge us too – to try new jobs – to learn - to grow. You have created and maintained a very special place to be a volunteer. I know of what I speak as I worked for the Red Cross for 20 years where volunteer management and support is number one. From the very first contact I had with you I knew you had a great program – not good but GREAT. I am so touched and honored to be volunteer of the year. Thank you so much." - Mary Murray
Kudos to Dave, Colleen, Toni and Marcos for a great job!
"I would like to comment on the maintenance at Williams Park in Lehigh Acres. I have been walking in the park 5 days a week for the past 3 months. I am happy to pass this along to you that Williams Park is one of the best maintained facilities that I have come across in my many travels. The maintenance staff at the park are very diligent in their duties especially the maintenance foreperson who I have spoke to on a number of occasions. Congratulations on a job well done. I just wanted to pass along my appreciation." - Russ Pickering From Toronto Canada
Kudos to Brady!
"After meeting one of your employees, I feel compelled to write to you to express my tremendous gratitude to the man. Several weeks ago I was connected with Brady Marshall who works the fields at Terry Park. I have created a nonprofit organization in Naples that will work with minority and underserved kids to help them learn the basics of baseball. Upon hearing about my program, Brady has been extremely helpful in assisting me in getting my field in shape. He is kind, caring, and generous with his time. He has also gone out of his way to assist a couple of the high schools in the area. It is not often that you come across this level of customer service and generosity. Brady is truly an asset to the parks division of Lee Co. Government." - Bob Scallan, President Field of Dreams Naples, FL
Kudos to Andy Miller for a job well done!
"A very good friend went to Bunche beach with her whole family on a very busy Saturday afternoon. When she went to put the dollar bill in the parking machine it would not accept the bill and the machine indicated it was broken. My friend went to find someone and came across “one of your maintenance people” After she explained the situation he told her not to worry that he would take care of it. So off they went to the sand. A few minutes he found her and explained that he had put a card on her windshield with this name and an explanation of the problem so she shouldn’t have any problem. My friend gave me the business card and told me that he handled the situation perfectly! The name on the card was Andy Miller."
Kudos to all of you for making such a lasting impression on our users.
"At the opening ceremony for WaKe Hatchee Park I was walking around enjoying the booths. At one booth I began a conservation with the artist and he was so thrilled with the event he had to let me know. He also wanted to make sure that I knew that he and his wife go to all our parks and they absolutely love them. They can’t believe how clean and beautiful they are and how friendly our staff are. They could not get over the difference between our facilities and the ones they go to 'up north'."
Kudos Troy!
"Mr. Bratt called to let us know that he & his wife were at Bonita Beach and apparently they had done something wrong when Ranger Troy Trudo approached them to explain the rules. Mr. Bratt was so impressed with the way Troy handled the situation that he just had to let us know how courteous and professional Troy was. Mr. Bratt stated that Ranger Trudo was a credit to our department."
Kudos to Annisa & Joe for a great job!
"Just want to send a pat-on-the-back to someone at county staff…. We haven’t been out to Hickey's Creek for a couple of years…and it was in great shape then. We got out there yesterday morning and hiked the entire trail system and we were both impressed how well everything looked. Trails are extremely well marked and clear. Keep up the good work." - Bob Beville, Director of Sales Waterman Broadcasting
A note for the staff at WaKe Hatchee! Kudos to all of you for a great job!
"Just a quick note to say how incredibly impressed I am with the professionalism, courtesy, and just plain good nature of the employees I've interacted with at the Wa-Ka Hatchee Recreation Center. Every time I visit they greet me with a smile and anything I've ever asked for, they've gone out their way to help. I apologize that I don't know all their first names, or any of their last names, but a few of the people I've dealt with were: Donna, Jodi, and Craig, and on occasion Chrissie and Doreen. I've seen how they've interacted with other visitors as well, so I know their good nature wasn't just for me. They seem to be "on" all the time. Anyway, I just wanted you know that they are a credit to Lee County. A true pleasure to deal with. Regards" - Bill Colman
Kudos to Amanda for being the champion for people with disabilities. Her dedication to those less fortunate than us is admirable.
"Thank you so much for coming and giving us the ADA training. You gave us great information and some good ideas for handling some of the situations unique to the public library setting. With the 3-4 group homes in the Riverdale area, the halfway houses, and Buckingham School using Riverdale we are presented with situations where special techniques will help us deal with patrons. The information about Autism will be a real help with understanding the needs of the group of students with Autism that visits with their teacher. And of course the information about people in early stage dementia and Alzheimer will even help with the stressed out everyday people. (Edie has used it already!) I will be glad to return the favor and give a class on library resources to any of your Parks people." - Sharon Hamman M.A.-LIS Senior Librarian/Branch Manager, Riverdale Branch Library/LCLS
Kudos to Becca and all the crew at Estero for a great job!!
"Yesterday evening Commissioner Judah and I were down at the Estero Community Center for a presentation to the Estero Community Planning Panel and the young woman working the desk, whose name I only got as “Becca” was a tremendous help. She was friendly, helpful and courteous no matter what I needed. I just wanted to make sure you knew what a great person you had on staff and how well she represented the Parks and Rec team." - Thank you, Molly Schweers, Executive Assistant, Commissioner Ray Judah, District 3
Kudos to Irma and Michele!
“Good Morning Irma. It was my distinct pleasure to speak with you and a member of your staff last night at the Estero Rec Center. The Estero Rec Center is a great facility due in large part to the friendly and dedicated staff. Thanks for all you do.” - Donna Marie Collins, Chief Assistant County Attorney
Kudos to Amanda. She has insured that our department is sensitive to the needs of those with challenges and you have all helped her accomplish this goal.
“I feel the need to address Amanda Gutierrez's position and her role to provide amenities for the disabled and other related issues. Since we met at a Relay for Life in the year 2005, she has been invaluable to my wife and I with ADA issues regarding our two service animals. She has provided me with a plethora of information in making our lives much easier and fluent as travelers with service animals.
Please let me introduce myself to you. My name is Michael Hogan. I am hearing impaired and profoundly deaf. My wife, Shar, is my rock and assist me with my deafness. We travel frequently Nationwide with our two service dogs, Max (Boxer mix) and Kylei (Blonde Lab). Both are well trained to assist me in public and home for my audiotory needs. Often times wherever we may be, in Restaurants, jets or at meetings, no knew the service animals were in the room until they had a visual of the dogs. They are very well trained service dogs. We have a Non-profit Organization to assist the hearing impaired in which I invite you to take a look at the web-site. I would like to know if I have your permission to use your link on our www.HearXchange.com web-site?
Please acknowledge Amanda's strong work ethics in providing a personal/professional bond to see other people's needs are met. At least like myself, I have someone to turn to in regards to discrimination due to my deafness. Our business relationship is important to us as I spread her reputation as far as I travel and then some. If you need more information from me, please do not hestitate to contact me at mjhogann@msn.com. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.” - Michael Hogan, dba HearXchange Foundation (Founder)
Kudos to Sandy, Cory & Bob!
"Every year I look forward to sharing with you how great the Pine Island Pool staff is. I just love "bragging" about these folks. Since my retirement eight years ago, I have been taking water aerobics at the pool. This team - Sandy, Cory, and Bob...just keep getting better and better. Each year they find new exercises - both shallow and deep- to challenge and keep us motivated. They divide the class into aerobic and toning components, always taking time and care to be sure that everyone understands and performs the exercises correctly. They encourage us and MAKE US WORK.
Anyone who thinks that water aerobics isn't exercise has not taken a class from these three.
Sandy exemplifies true leadership in her actions. She manages an impeccably clean and well maintained facility and also shares the class instruction with Cory and Bob. Sandy could choose to teach all the classes herself, but she knows how much Cory and Bob enjoy leading the classes also and shares the instruction. Each one of them does an awesome job in helping us maintain a healthy exercise regimen. They respect each other and enjoy their jobs.
Pine Island is a very unique place, and that is why we choose to live here. When I saw the sign indicating heated pool, I turned to my husband and said "I am home." I have been swimming since I was 7 and my home is in the water. I plan my days around the pool and its classes. The only thing that could be improved...is to open the pool on Sunday and/or Monday so that I could have more water time. I have meet wonderful people at the pool, and we all enjoy each other while we "rock to the tunes"
Another great job by the Terry Park staff!
"Yesterday was the final day of Bob Wagner's 15th Annual Wooden Bat Classic, a baseball tournament geared for players over the age of 30 but the overall average age is about 55. All of our games played this past week were played at the Terry Park fields.
There were a total of 186 players this year, a few of them from right here in Lee County, most of them from states other than Florida, and 4 players who came all the way from Moscow, Russia to be with us.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how great it is to work with Pablo, but especially Brady and all of the guys who keep that fields in immaculate playing condition. All too often the work of the grounds crew is taken for granted but without them there would be no games at all. Despite an overnight total of over 2 inches of rain on Tuesday night all of our games scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday started exactly on time. I can't begin to tell you how many comments I got from players who were both amazed by the efforts of the grounds crew on Wednesday morning and the overall condition of the fields before and after the rain.
Without a doubt the improvements at Terry Park and the excellent fields at Terry are the top 2 reasons the guys will be back in 2012 for the 16th annual Wooden Bat Classic." - Greg Wagner, Bob Wagner's Wooden Bat Classic
Great job, Sue & Nina!
“As a representative of the Matlacha Civic Association I want to thank and acknowledge the employees, Sue and Nina, who help us with our two main events of the year. In conjunction with the Calusa Blueway Kayak events, we hold "The Taste of Matlacha" at the park and in Dec. we host "Holiday Bliss". Both events are well attended by residents of Matlacha and Pine Island as well as "off-islanders".
Without Sue & Nina it couldn't be done. They attend the preparatory meetings, help with planning, permitting, publicity, activities and even clean-up. Both women go above & beyond the call of duty for these events and have done so each year.
In addition to the two events being fun & inclusive for the community, we raise much needed money for the Pine Island Food Pantry. Thank you also for making them available to us. They're great employees!”
Kudos to Cathy Olson and her staff!
"Cathy, Thanks for being helpful as usual. Your crew is helpful as usual, so I want to thank Laura Wewerka for finding some trees that can use felled, and for Jeff Anderson yesterday in trying to trouble shoot with me on finding other sites." - Mike Weston Florida Division of Forestry CFA Senior Forester – Lee, Collier, Hendry Counties
Compliments to Roy!
"Hello Roy, I just wanted to send you a compliment on how well the Urban Pond and Aquatic Species Management Seminar was organized and ran.
Also I wanted to compliment the great presentations I was able to hear in the afternoon. Ernesto, Steve, and Jim Ryan did a great job on bringing out different results, ideas, and issues for others to learn and think about.
From my observation the program was a great success, and I applaud you and any others that may have helped your efforts on getting so many homeowners to the program." - Molly Meadows, South Florida Water Management District Stormwater Division
Thank you, Mabel and the NFM Community Center staff!
"Mabel, As a fellow Lee County employee, I know how tight budgets are these days. We are sometimes not able to offer a service we would like to. I am happy to tell you that budgetary constraints have not adversely affected the wonderful programming staff at the North Fort Myers Community Center. I approached them about the possibility of offering a yoga or tai chi class in the evenings. Although the paperwork has not been finalized on this, they have been extremely responsive in their efforts to make this happen. It has been a pleasure working with them. As a new North Fort Myers librarian (I previously worked at the Cape Coral Library), I look forward to meeting them in person. The youth services staff here have worked with the community center in the past, and they have nothing but positive comments to make about the center." - Elaine Weissborn, Reference Librarian North Fort Myers Public Library
Kudos to Alise Flanjack and her staff!
“The 2010 State Sr. Games finished up yesterday as a Successful event. I want Thank You and your staff for all of your support and for sharing your time and resources for all the various sports. I'm confident we have provided our best facilities, customer service and support to the Fla Sports Foundation staff, the athletes and their families. Many athletes said they look forward to coming back to Lee County in the future. Thanks Again for your help, Alise”
“Alise, thanks for the email to your amazing staff. I also want to sincerely thank everyone for such a GREAT job. You are the reason why our reputation in the sports industry is so stellar. This group gives an amazing level of customer service…and you always have. You have set the bar very high for future host sites…good luck to Polk County in delivering the service that you all have done over the last 5 years. So thank you, and I wish each of you a very happy holiday season.”
"The Florida Sports Foundation just concluded their fifth year in Lee County. I was the director of the tennis games for each of the years we were in Lee County. Four years at Florida Gulf Coast University, two days at Rutenberg, and this year we were at Three Oaks. Each year we had Parks and Recreation assisting us in assuring the facilities were ready for play. Each year your associates, and especially Chris Williams went beyond what was required of them. I thank you and each person involved for their efforts.
This year was no exception. On Thursday, December 9, matches were scheduled to begin at 8:00 am. It began to rain prior to my arrival to the courts at 7:15 am and continued raining to noon. Telephone calls were made for additional equipment and manpower. Seven men arrived and within a little over two hours had the courts ready for tennis. What an effort they gave.
I did not get an opportunity to thank each of them separately, but I wanted you to know how much I appreciate their effort and quality of their work. Unfortunately, I only have first names of four of these gentlemen. I know you will know who they are and please pass on my appreciation to each (and to their supervisors). The associates are: Manny, Lou, Jeff and Bruce. Thanks to them our tennis was satisfactorily completed and on the day scheduled. Again, thanks for a job well done by you and your staff.”
“Well, all of my bags are packed and I am about to leave Lee County. I just wanted to verify that the support and hospitality we have received these past five years was essential to the success of the Games. We really are going to miss everyone, not just the hard work and efforts of your team, but also the friendships we have developed. We work with many communities, and each of you set Lee County apart from the rest. Thank you so very much for everything and Happy Holidays! We hope to have the opportunity to work together again in the future.”
Great Job Roy!
"Dear Ms. Hill I am writing you today about Mr. Roy Beckford. I am from Word of Life church and Roy has been helping us with our community garden. Our community garden was started in the hopes of helping to support our New Life Dream Center. The New Life Dream Center is an 18 month residential program for men and women seeking freedom from addictions and dysfunctional lifestyles. Currently there are over 100 men, women and children in the program.
Roy has been such a valuable resource to our community garden. Prior to meeting Roy, we stumbled through two and a half years with little help, bearing little fruit. This year, with Roy’s committed and consistent help, we are seeing positive results. Roy is a wealth of information and he has shared so much with us. He has also put us in touch with other local people who have been able to help, either with knowledge and training or donations. Not only has Roy provided training and resources, but he also given us positive support and feedback. I know that if I am feeling particularly worried or stressed about the garden, I can send off an email to Roy and he will have a solution for us along with a positive word. That little bit of hand holding has provided the encouragement we needed.
I really can’t say enough nice things about Roy. He has been such a blessing! Thank you for allowing him to be a part of our project and his continued support."
Kudos to Bob and James and to Skip for volunteering to help out our fellow Parks and Recreation folks.
“Barbara, I wanted to send you this personal note of THANKS for the outstanding work of your staff on the Sanibel School Ball field project. Bob Tice and James Eash from the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department did an outstanding job. Mr. Tice led the project and with his extensive knowledge and “can do” attitude, thus the job was completed in record time and to the highest of standards. As stated previously, this team work effort saved money for all community partners involved, and we would not have been able to move forward without your support and the work of your dedicated employees. I don’t have Mr. Eash e mail so I would appreciate it if you would thank him for us, or others who Mr. Tice may have engaged in this project. Thank you again!” - From the Recreation Director on Sanibel
Kudos to Jeremy!
“Elaine called to give compliments about a very nice young man named Jeremy who works at FMB and Bowditch Beach. She said that he had on a shirt with Parks & Rec on it. She was at the beach with five of her friends (they are all older and retired) and went up on the pier. He came over and spoke to them about stingrays, manatees and the various fish that they saw. They were all very impressed with him and want to let the County know.”
